Boom Studios launched ANOTHER Kickstarter
BOOM! Studios has launched yet another Kickstarter campaign.
Back in October of 2020 Boom! Studios first campaign, BRZRKR, had finished its initial campaign run. The series has yet to conclude its 12 issue run, that is being released in local comic shops, and some backers are still waiting to get their 2nd volume delivered from the campaign.
The publisher recently launched their 7th campaign on Kickstarter, The Expanse.
To date they have not yet completely fulfilled any of their campaigns, and as far as I’m aware they haven’t delivered any rewards for any of their other campaigns, other than BRZRKR.
They are very bad at communicating, and engaging with their backers. If you look at the comments on any of their campaigns you can see the sentiments echoed.
If you ask me, these are the FUNDAMENTALS of crowdfunding. You have to keep your backers updated, and keep hype around the project. Without COMMUNICATION and ENGAGEMENT people lose enthusiasm for the project.
When backers are asking questions on your campaign page and sending you direct messages, as a creator you should be responding in a somewhat timely manner, or backers start to feel taken advantage of, or even feel as if they’re being scammed.
You have to communicate!
If this were Rippaverse, or nearly any other creator, we all know damn well they’d be called a grifter, a scam artist, and all the other names in the book.
If you ask me these guys are fundamentally ruining what crowdfunding is all about.
Anyway, I was thinking about doing a video about it, but figured I use this post as a rough draft of what I will be discussing.
I buy plenty of Boom comics from my LCS, but after backing BRZRKR, I won’t be backing any of their campaigns again. Terrible experience, considering the comics hit shops way before they deliver books to backers (which they did let us know they’d be in shops before they could ever deliver the collected editions). Regardless I know damn well if it was anybody else they’d be getting dragged through the mud.
Let me know what y’all think.
