For the love of print
Posted by monstaroc on February 3, 2022 at 7:29 pmWhat comics or characters got everybody into comic book reading and/or collecting? I was a fan of the major Marvel and DC characters through the cartoons and toys before reading any books but it was Jim Lee’s run on X-Men that really first got me into collecting it.

Batman is the first comic book character I remember really resonating with me. The first trade paperbacks I got were Batman and The Walking Dead. What has gotten to be a lot more hardcore into comics has been Invinicible and Cyberfrog. I’ve read all the Cyberfrog comics from the 90s issues to Bloodhoney and I’ve read the first 4 volumes of Invincible and I’m halfway through the fifth. Really enjoying that series.

Yes I’ve also been watching the Batman the animated series on HBO. It’s very good, I also checked out the Superman animated series and I really liked it. Lois Lane is a great character her interactions with Clark and Superman are very entertaining.

For me it was Batman, Spider-man, and the X-Men. I blame the Shriner Circus for introducing me to comics as a kid since they handed them out to everyone at every show. That will likely date me, but I care not lol

For me, it was Superman, Batman, and Spider-Man. Like you, Monstaroc, first starting liking Marvel, and DC, via the action figures, films, and TV Shows. In fact, my very first exposure to a comic book character in general was “Superman: The Movie”. After that, I started reading some of my Dad’s comics. One of my early favorite stories that flung me into reading comics more seriously, was “Batman: Hush.” Jim Lee, Scott Williams, and Alex Sinclair brought their A-Game with that story!
